J3 COMPETITION AND THOMAS ISSA TAKE THE MAX JR. CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE 2013 FWT

J3 Competition successfully ended the first quarter of 2013 with a solid bang as it captured the FWT Max Jr. title a day early in Ocala, FL. With a full slate of drivers rounding out the final FWT event, J3 Competition brought in results in both the Florida Winter Tour and Challenge of Americas.

Rotax JR. Having jumped to an early and substantial lead in the Max Jr. points after sweeping the FWT Homestead event, Thomas Issa rounded out a successful first day in Ocala at the final round by taking a solid second place in Saturday’s pre-final and final. These results gave Issa enough points without needing to compete in the final day and due to the ruling within the FWT, the team decided to sit out Sunday’s events and take home the championship and ticket to NOLA for the 2013 Grand Finals a day early. Aside Issa at the final FWT round in Ocala were teammates William Myers and team Mini Max convert, Ethan Tyler. Both Myers and Tyler impressed as Myers grabbed his best qualifying effort with third quickest for Sunday, while Tyler took eleventh in his first ever Max Jr. effort. Myers took a solid result in the pre-final as did Tyler as both drivers took great top ten starting positions for the final. With wet weather in the final, both drivers were on the wrong end of some unlucky incidents; however their solid efforts will look to progress as the team now moves into the remainder of the 2013 season.

Rotax SR. J3 ended its winter campaign with Andrew Palmer completing the final round of the Challenge of Americas in California while Tristan DeGrand wrapped up the FWT in Ocala. Palmer was on pace in California as he posted Friday’s official fastest time, however the races were not as kind as race incidents hampered any hopes for a podium result. Palmer ended the three race west coast championship with sixth in the final points tally.

DeGrand ended his FWT tour in Ocala with a solid top ten position in Sunday’s mixed conditions as he was within reach of the top five at several points in the final. DeGrand’s steady results during the 2013 FWT have netted him a final position of ninth in the 2013 FWT championship chase.

Rotax Mini – Team Mini Max pilot Theo Chick had company in Ocala, FL as Kaylen Frederick moved from Micro Max to the Mini Max category. Both drivers impressed as the changing track conditions really played a vital part throughout the weekend. Chick had the pace to compete in the top ten during the entire event and successfully managed a ninth place finish in Sunday’s final, which undoubtedly will give the young driver a boost moving forward into the 2013 season. In his first ever Mini Max event, Kaylen Frederick showed the determination to be contender in the coming events. With the tutelage from CCB-Group’s Christian Boudon, Fredrick will pair with J3 Competition for the remainder of the 2013 season.

Commenting on the successful first quarter of 2013, J3 Competition team manager Justin Stefani said: “It has been a tireless transition from 2012 to the 2013 season for our staff and it is very rewarding to see the hard work of our efforts not go unnoticed. We were able to capture arguably the most competitive title with our championship in Florida not to mention numerous other highpoints from coast to coast with all our drivers. On behalf of J3 Competition I would like to extend gratitude to all our technical partners, drivers, parents, and technicians who worked so successfully within our framework during Q1.”
