A long journey and season landed the talented young American David Malukas at the famed circuit in Le Mans, France this past week. If you are remotely familiar with motorsport, knowing the famed circuit and area made synonymous for motorsport with its annual 24hr du Mans race, also held the coveted IAME X30 World Championships for 2015.
With an already successful season under his grasp, Malukas entered the event under the watchful guidance of mentor Bryn Nuttal of BN Racing. The combination has made massive marks on the competition thus far in 2015 aboard their COMPKART chassis combination and Le Mans set the stage for another chance to prove the combination. The week leading up to the X30 Finals the duo was able to test at the circuit in Le Mans to better grasp the conditions and allow David to receive the track time needed in preparation for the highly competitive X30 Finals. After testing the team felt confident citing the chassis handling coupled with the development Nuttal alongside the braintrust at Ogden UK Racing Engines made on the X30 power unit seeming to be in the ‘zone’ for the upcoming race.
After a few days off, the team arrived to the circuit to begin the official testing and straightaway the pace was on par. Working on testing several solutions the team arrived at a setting, which proved to be the ultimate solution. The event started with usual qualifying that included a near 100 drivers entered, whereby Malukas blistered the field en route to taking pole position a critical step toward the end goal and an amazing accomplishment in itself.
From qualifying onward the team proved to be unstoppable as Malukas went on to win all five (5) heat races a feat really unimaginable when looking at the level of competition. With the perfect score Malukas slotted in the pole position for Sunday’s pre-final, no better place to start for the young American as he sized up the daunting Sunday task. The amazing run for Malukas continued with the pre final win followed later by the ultimate final win of five (5) seconds and the crown of 2015 X30 World Champion!
