July 13, 2015 – Popular United States sprint kart racer David Malukas and his HMD Trucking team have joined the Erie, Pa.-based J3 Competition team led by Jim and John Giacomelli and Justin Stefani. The new teaming will see Malukas enter upcoming marquee events in the U.S. on a COMPKART chassis, a kart designed and developed by J3 Competition.
David has recently returned home from racing in Europe and after a weekend off he will kick off the summer aboard a COMPKART for the first time at this weekend’s Rotax Summer Shootout at Carolina Motorsports Park.
“We are anxious at the opporyunity to have David working within our Race Department; his talents and resume speak for itself,” J3 Competition’s Justin Stefani commented. “As we take over the last half of the 2015 season and beyond, it will be our job to extract the most from the new relationship which is something we are starting immediately, with the Rotax Summer Shootout.”
Next weekend – July 24-26 – the Malukas team will head to Indiana’s New Castle Motorsports Park for the highly anticipated SKUSA SummerNationals.
David will miss the USPKS event at MRP the first weekend of August to compete in another international event – this time, the Motor Sports Association’s Kartmasters British Kart Grand Prix at PF International in England. Upon returning from England, Malukas will be set to run the 2015 US Rotax Grand Nationals August 3-9 at Carolina Motorsports Park.
The Malukas team plans to return to USPKS action for the season closer August 21-23 at New Castle.
“I’m really excited to get started on the COMPKART,” David commented. “I think it’s a very competitive chassis and John, Jim and Justin at J3 (Competition) have worked really hard to develop the kart. Our team with (head tuner) Wes (Phillips) and my dad are ready to get racing; I think we’ll be competitive out of the box and I’m looking forward to challenging for wins this summer!”
J3’s Jim Giacomelli noted the current excitement around the COMPKART program.
“This is an exciting time at J3 Competition, just coming off our first major win in the Senior Pro TAG class with our newly branded COMPKART and then following it up by the signing of David. David will be an intricate part of the continuing development of the COMPKART chassis for our Junior program along with mentoring some of the other Junior and Mini drivers within the J3 Competition Race Team.”
J3’s John Giacomelli added the following. “After speaking with David, I feel his driving style, on track determination, experience, and personality fits the mold of J3 Competition and COMPKART perfect.”
David has spent some time racing overseas this season and he has more international events in his sights in the coming months. Recently Malukas competed at the CIK KF European Championships at PF International in England with coach Bryn Nuttall and BN Racing.
Included on David’s upcoming international calendar is the aforementioned Kartmasters British Kart Grand Prix July 31-Aug. 2, which will again see David pair with Nuttall and BN Racing, and the CIK European Championship at La Conco, Italy, September 24-27.
