After an already successful start to the busy 2014 season, J3 Competition’s Race Department recently enjoyed a solid three days at Ocala Gran Prix. The team spent two days of testing coupled with the opening round of the Ocala Gran Prix spring event #1 held on Saturday February 1.
During the well attended event, J3 Competition entered a trio of Rotax junior drivers, Theo Chick, Luis Forteza, and Ethan Tyler along with DD2 pilot Michael Ilavia. Having a constant mix of wet, intermediate and dry conditions during the event, J3 Competition navigated the tricky conditions to produce the best possible solution for its drivers. At the conclusion of qualifying, J3 Rotax junior drivers crossed the line 1-2-3 with the order of; Forteza, Tyler, and Chick. Ilavia would be the lone DD2 entry which enabled him to spend the day working on technical and driving setups for the coming FWT event.
A solid pre-final in dry conditions saw Forteza jump away to a commanding lead where he took the win followed by Theo Chick in second and Ethan Tyler in fifth place, a good showing in the deep field of 17 drivers. The final, which was ran later in the day under dark and rainy conditions was again dominated by Luis Forteza who took home a commanding win with Ethan Tyler taking third place while Theo Chick took home a solid fourth place finish with the second fastest lap of the event.
