The J3 Competition Race Department recently stepped into the opening round of its local series at Pittsburgh International Complex (April 26 & 27) with its drivers as they began the strong schedule set in front of them for the remainder of 2014. The course the team set out in Pittsburgh was immediately seen as the development of both material and drivers was very solid during this small event. Young David Ilavia won the Rotax Jr. category and took pole position both days as well, which as a great start. Ilavia was joined by his brother Michael testing for upcoming events in the DD2 category as well as Theo Chick (Rotax Jr.) and team newcomer Tyler Schramm in TaG Sr.
With no time to waste the team took another four drivers the following week to the season opener for the Gear-UP F1 series at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) during the May 4-5 weekend. Success was immediate as during Friday’s testing the team utilized its data logging from the powerful Unipro system alongside detailed video analysis. With the material set and the drivers properly focused, Alessandro Bressan took a commanding win aboard his J3 Competition entry in the hotly contested Formula 355 category (IAME Leopard). Bressan was not the only driver in the spotlight as Theo Chick took a hard fought step on the podium in third with a well-deserved run in the Formula Jr category (Rotax Jr.) and then in only his second event with the team, Tyler Schramm took the fight in the TaG Sr. field against solid competition to take the second step on the podium!
