Drivers looking to be part of the 2022 Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals have the first opportunity to earn tickets to the ‘Olympics of Karting’ through the Rotax Winter Trophy 2022. The four round program is scheduled to take place over two weekends this winter in the state of Florida. Event promoter RTX Group and Grid 14 Motorsports are preparing for an amazing start to the 2022 season for Rotaxians across North, Central and South America.
The location for all four rounds of the Rotax Winter Trophy 2022 program is the Orlando Kart Center. Location in Orlando, Florida, OKC opened in 2009, having hosted a number of major international, national and regional events over the last 12 years. The circuit is 8/10 of a mile long, hosting one of the largest Rotax races in the USA back in 2011.
The opening event is scheduled for January 22-23, with the first two rounds of the Rotax Winter Trophy contested. The second event was originally scheduled for the end of February, however, has been moved to the February 5-6 weekend for Rounds Three and Four. Each weekend will include unofficial practice sessions on Friday. Saturday begins with warm-up, followed by qualifying, two heat races and the main event. Sunday is a repeat of the same format on Sunday, with podium ceremonies to be held at the end of the day.
The Rotax Max Challenge class structure remains one of the more simplified class structure, including Micro Max, Mini Max, Junior Max, Senior Max and Master Max. The DD2 category is a unique engine package for the Rotax brand, featuring a two-speed gearbox. A Briggs 206 division has been added in addition to make it seven classes for the four rounds of racing.
A prize package valued over $40,000 for the Rotax Winter Trophy is one of the key aspects to drivers and teams participating. Each Rotax champion will earn a 2022 Rotax Grand Finals ticket and a US Finals 2022 entry fee. Runner-up receives a voucher check valued for a 40% discount on a brand new Rotax engine plus a 50% discount on entry fee to the US Finals 2022. A Constructor Championship will be tabulated throughout the 2022 Rotax Winter Trophy program. Every point earned by drivers in each category racing for a respective team goes toward the series end championship. The top championship team takes home $8,000 in prize money. Second-place is a $3,000 check with $1,000 to the third-place team in the Constructor Championship.
Entry fee for the 2022 Rotax Winter Trophy series is $550 for Junior, Senior, Master and DD2; $450 for Mini Max and Micro Max; with Briggs 206 at $300.
