Wednesday Euro Max #2
Dear Readership,
Today was a normal setup day for myself and the team. With a total of ten drivers, we finished assembling a second tent for hospitality, workshop, along with the setup for ourselves and a fellow competitor. Once settled with the essential tools and pieces required for final the chassis preparation the work began….The usual axle fitting, wiring, Unipro, carbon fittings mountings, tires, etc. were all completed today with only a quick splash of fuel required in the morning.
Not only was I able to achieve everything on the task list, but there was also some time to be had for getting to know the team members and fellow mechanics. All well-versed and willing to give a quick hand as of course I have no idea where everything from drills, cleaners to wheel balancers are kept. But, I can safely say after today my knowledge of the infrastructure is sound.
Early in the day I also spent some time with our J3 Competition engine tuner, Tony Cruttenden (Supertune). Tony has a very well laid out Sprinter van as most all engine tuners do here with a complete workshop and large stock of Rotax parts in order to react to customer demands on the spot. For this weekend Supertune will have nearly forty engines out for rent! I believe this is common here as there appears to be around six serious engine service providers on site.
Once Alex arrived to the track he acclimated to the team for a bit and then it was off for a walk around the technical circuit here in Angerville. Once finished there, we went to the registration office to get our pre-entry packet. This you will definitely like, one signature and we were handed our packet and out the door! I would say that the entire process took two minutes, which as well know can be a daunting task last a long time. Here as in most all European events, the driver and mechanics are issued hard cards, simple and foolproof. Another nice process here that is followed in the USA thanks to the staff at MaxSpeed is the issuing of practice tires. The tires are arranged by the team/team mangers, but they are delivered from the exact batch as the race tires. This eliminates any guessing games and ensures a fair playing field for everyone, something I approve of. Another final note, you may have noticed from Monday’s photos that the starting lights are visible and located on an adequate gantry – very similar to the FWT. Today I noticed that each corner is marked with the same lighting system the FWT uses as well (Nice Job Bill).
Tomorrow, Wednesday, marks the first time we will take to the track with a total of eight sessions on the schedule. The main objectives are simple for tomorrow; get all our engines ran in, comfortable chassis setup and a comfortable driver.
