Re: Race Department

J3 Competition continued its presence at the third round of the 2014 RoK Cup USA Championship this past week in Jacksonville, FL. J3 Competition entered a total of five drivers for the newly formed and exciting RoK Cup USA Championship series. Luis Forteza and Theo Chick were entered in the RoK Jr. category, Thomas Issa and Mike Horton Jr. entered the RoK Sr. category with Mike Horton Sr. rounding the team out in RoK Masters.

The junior squad was anchored by Luis Forteza who proved strong in the category from his first session on track. Forteza worked solidly with the team and perfected his weekend by starting out with pole position on Friday and moving forward with three heat wins, pre-final and the ultimate final victory. Teammate Theo Chick had a solid event as he positioned well in the heat races on Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately, Chick found some unlucky circumstances early on in Sunday’s final and was able to recover and secure a seventh place finish. Both drivers’ next events will be later this month at Miller Motorsports Pak for the USRMC Rotax Shootout.

With a solid line up in RoK Sr. Thomas Issa looked to be a contender for the win throughout free practice leading up to the events. After qualifying second, Issa worked through the three heat race format well with a 2nd, 1st, and making a pass for the win in the third heat he had contact relegating himself to a DNF. After an open lap battle in the final, Issa recovered to second place where he was able to maintain second and finish the final on the podium.
