Location: Mt. Tremblant, Quebec Canada

Event: ECKC Round 6 & 7

D. Ilavia - Pole Position Run

J3 Competition spent the past weekend finishing out 2014 ECKC Championship series at the striking Mt. Tremblant circuit in Quebec Canada. Two days of testing (Thursday and Friday) were followed by two separate race days, where J3 Competition entered Team USA member Michael Ilavia in Rotax DD2 while David Ilavia and Michael Benyahia took on the Rotax Jr. field. The weekend’s events were made very interesting with the constant changing weather leaving both Saturday and Sunday’s pre-final and final events on a rain soaked circuit.

Competing against arguably the world’s finest DD2 drivers, Michael Ilavia took to the Tremblant circuit for the first time finding competitive pace almost immediately. Having developed a solid setup with his team, Michael marched through qualifying on Saturday in 3rd until a shift mechanism failure relegated him to 7th and after a hard fought round of races in mixed wet conditions Ilavia finished Saturday in 9th. On Sunday Ilavia qualified in 5th in dry conditions and yet again raced the pre-final and final in wet conditions taking home another top ten finish.

The J3 Competition Max Jr. duo was at the front during both Thursday and Friday sessions as they also took to the Tremblant circuit for the first time. Ilavia showed the way on Saturday as he worked up through the field from his 5th place qualifying position to second place in the early stages of the final until an unfortunate mechanical issue sidelined the young driver from what was sure to be trip to the podium. Benyahia in his first Rotax event with J3 Competition took 7th on Saturday with pace consistent and fast enough to battle with the leaders proving a solid start to more success to come. On Sunday, Ilavia took the pole position in qualifying as Benyahia bested his efforts in 6th. Both pre-final and finals were rain soaked and did not play out the way the team had wanted, yet Iliava battled back for solid 5th position with Benyahia making contact early in the final setting himself back.

“The level of competition was very high in Tremblant and once again we were able to arrive on unfamiliar grounds and deliver the pace and fight at the front-end of the field in both Max. Jr and DD2. We missed the ultimate in Rotax Jr. on Saturday with an unfortunate mechanical, yet we gained the pole position on Sunday and in DD2 we were at the front-end in the dry so, this event gives no doubts about our competitiveness and work heading into the remainder of 2014.”
