Re: Race Department
J3 Competition Takes 2 – DD2 Wins and 1 Max Sr. Win enroute to a Stellar Event!
J3 Competition took its Race Department west during the end of June to compete in the coveted USRMC Shootout held in Tooele, Utah at Miller Motorsportspark. J3 entered a total of seven drivers for the exciting event as it prepares many of the United States eligible drivers for the USA Grand Nationals and a subsequent opportunity to represent TEAM USA later in Spain at the Rotax-BRP World Finals. The team’s line up consisted of the following drivers:
Rotax Jr.
Theo Chick – Luis Forteza – David Ilavia – Ethan Tyler
Rotax DD2
Alessandro Bressan – Michael Ilavia
Rotax Sr.
Alessandro Bressan – Thomas Issa
The team was on point from the first day of free day of practice as they worked through a two day test period on Thursday and Friday. Having gained a valuable amount of data during the test days the team heading to Saturday and Sunday’s action full prepared looking for solid results.
In the DD2 category it was clean sweep for Bressan as he firmly set the mark on both days by taking the pole position, pre-final and final wins in dominating fashion. Fellow teammate Michael Ilavia also enjoyed a successful weekend with a double podium finish as he took a well-deserved second place on Saturday followed up with a third place finish on Sunday.
Bressan continued his double duty in the Rotax Sr. category as he paired himself along Thomas Issa. Both drivers put their J3 Competition entries at the front of the field during the entire event. On Saturday Bressan was able to secure pole position, which he backed up with a pre-final and impressive win. Issa wasn’t as fortunate on Saturday’s event as turn one incident hindered his final result coming home in an impressive 6th place finish while Bressan and Issa took honors of the fastest two laps in the final. Sunday was again a great day for both drivers as Issa would qualify in second with Bressan in third. The final was exciting as some strong racing in the early stages set the field apart and saw Bressan come home in second with the fastest lap of the event while Issa took a well-deserved fourth place just missing the podium.
The junior squad at J3 Competition was very competitive with all its drivers during the Shootout event. With the racing action in the junior category being summed up as intense and a little ‘crazy’. The end results didn’t prove the full potential of the team as Forteza would battle within the top three several times during the event only to leave with two DNF’s. It was a similar case for David Ilavia who found himself among the front runners every time on track and walked away with two DNF’s. Theo Chick had a great run on Sunday after a nasty accident during Saturday’s final to finish in 8th place during the final with solid speed as he looks toward the USRMC Nationals.
“Miller Motorsportspark did a fantastic job hosting the Shootout event and we couldn’t be happier with the racing and attention to detail the staff put toward the Shootout event. We are looking forward to the USRMC Nationals later in July.”– J3 Management
