Round Two of the Rotax GoPro Summer Shootout concluded a high-adrenaline, action-packed weekend of karting at GoPro Motorplex. If the racing action from the Rotax GoPro Summer Shootout this weekend is any indication of what is to come in the U.S. Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Nationals at the end of the month, it will be a karting spectacle no one will want to miss.
Andrew Palmer accepted the $2,500 check from GoPro Motorplex for his impressive win in the Rotax Sr. category on Sunday. Saturday looked much the same for Palmer, unfrotunately in the closing lap, contact was made with a fellow competitor sidelining Palmer’s chances for a sweep.
In the Rotax Jr. category for J3 Competition, Florida WInter Tour Champion Thomas Issa was joined by new member Luis Forteza and Mini Max graduate Ethan Tyler. All drivers fared well with Issa highlighting on Sunday with his second place finish. Forteza bested his effort on Sunday as well as he took home a solid top ten finish after battling as high as fifth in the early stages. For his first event with the J3 Competition team, Forteza will look to take the momentum to the US Grand Nationals. The youngest of the pilots, Ethan Tyler aslo looked storng with pace running in the top ten all weekend long, unfortunately some bad racing luck struck Tyler on Sunday as he was looking to take home a top ten finish.
The team concluded its efforts with Mini Max driver’s Kaylen Frederick and Theo Chick. On Saturday, Frederick made a nice run to the front with a solid fourth place finish just one spot shy of the podium, Chick would not find the same fortune on Saturday as an off track excursion in the rain soaked final ended his chances earlier than expected. On Sunday the sun shined and the team started off strong with Frederick’s fourth place qualifying effort just one tenth shy of pole position. Frederick continued his pace as he contested for third place and the final podium postiion until the last lap when contact was made and he was forced to retire early with less than a lap left. Chick made a solid run on Sunday with with a steady final finishing seventh with very good pace.
