J3 HIGHLIGHTS FINAL FWT ROUND WITH A WIN IN ROTAX JR.

J3 Competition Race Department Orlando, Florida (Florida Winter Tour 5 & 6)

J3 Competition continued its progressive performances at the final round of the Florida Winter Tour Rotax Championship in Orlando, Florida this past weekend. The J3 Competition team was slimmed down for the final round, however, with a collaborative effort J3 was able to capture some solid results with Luis Forteza’s win on Saturday being the cornerstone to the event.

Luis Forteza, Theo Chick, and David Ilavia made up J3 Competition’s Rotax Jr. squad in Orlando. With a very tight grid in qualifying, Forteza was able to take two top ten results in his efforts to solidly put himself in the font group of drivers. Forteza worked through the field on Saturday to take the lead in the early stages of the final where he would go onto take the win in an impressive fashion. On Sunday Forteza was once again the front runner as he positioned himself in the top three for both the pre-final and final where he took another comfortable result of 2nd in the final. Forteza’s efforts allowed him to take the 2nd step in the Championship a well deserved result for all his efforts. David Ilavia had a solid outing in Orlado as he was among the top twenty drivers for the event and took home a15th place finish in Saturday’s final. Sunday looked to be strong for Ilavia as well; however contact with a competitor in the early stages ended his chances to repeat in Sundays events. Chick ended the FWT on a mixed note as he was competing near the top ten in Sunday’s final before being taken out by a fellow competitor.

The smallest of margins separated the top Rotax Sr. drivers during the entire event, easily making this category the most challenging. Thomas Issa placed himself in great position during the entire event by qualifying 2nd for Saturday and 6th for Sunday. Saturday’s pre-final and final starts were not kind to Issa as he was collected in both starts, thus having to work his way through the field in both events where he ended Saturday with a tenth place finish. On Sunday, Issa capitalized and finished the final in 3rd place on the final step of podium just a kart length from victory. Issa ended the series with a solid stamp on the result board and received 5th place in the Championship standings for his strong efforts.

DD2 title contender, Alessandro Bressan was unable to make the final round in Orlando, thus leaving Michael Ilavia to represent the team. Ilavia improved considerably against what can be easily classified as one of the strongest DD2 fields in the world. Michael was always in the top ten during the final rounds and qualified in the top ten both days. With a couple tough starts in both finals, Ilavia battled back to secure finishes of 11th and 12th, thus placing him 12th in the final Championship standings.
